Leaving the Adelphi

Another hot and sticky day has passed in London and so went the last official day in the Adelphi. I was attempting to think some suitable valedictory thoughts but a great void opens in my mind. I have therefore sought solace in a air-conditioned pub (The White Swan at Aldgate) where I can contemplate my miserable future. The only thing that I can think of now is to set up a new blog detailing my arrival in Caxton House, who knows what horrors await us.

Last Day

Well its Friday and the last day in the Adelphi. Personally I couldn’t stand to see the ship go down so I took the last day on flexi. Well it was all looking quite sad as the picture below indicates

All the docking stations have now gone so you need your extra power supply for laptop use etc. I can remember some concerns when we got the present desks on the grounds that these were smaller then the previous ones and now we are stepping down another peg on the ladder to Caxton House desks. If this goes on I will need to go on a diet or I won’t fit into the desk.

Two more days left in the Adelphi, I’m not sure that I can take the tension! Apart from anything else the heat is getting too me. Its not too bad out on the streets at the moment (but then its only 7 o’clock in the morning) but inside the Adelphi the air conditioning hasn’t yet kicked in so its a bit warm. How are you all coping with the temperature?

Icecream in the park

To celebrate our imminent departure we went for an icecream in embankment gardens. Many thanks to Val for buying them. The gardens were very crowded but we managed to find a reasonably shady spot to sit. As you can imagine it was fairly hot but we did have a band to listen to. Next week of course we will be doing the same thing in St James park.

Level 3 and rising

Its about 13:00 and the temperature is soaring. I don’t know what the actual temperature is but it seemed to have reached 30C around 16:00 yesterday and I wouldn’t be suprised if it hit 31C today. They are promising up to 33C later in the week. Why go abroad when you can get sun stroke here. I think that I will go down to embankment gardens and see how the dossers are getting on.

Won Kei – Last lunchtime visit from the Adelphi

Over the years I have been going to the Won Kei for lunch fairly regularly. A couple of years ago it was probably once a week and even now its every couple of weeks. Moving to Caxton House will put this outside the walking range for a standard lunchtime. At present its a gentle 10 minute stroll, from next week this would be more like 25 minutes. As I’m not a fan of a rushed lunch this will reduce my visits considerably. These trips always follow the same route there through Leicester Square and then back through Gerrard Street. Its a habit I have fallen into over the years.

Today we got there about 12:10 and the first floor upstairs was empty hence we were given the prime spot by the windows looking out onto Wardour Street. As always we were served jasmine tea which I m a fan of.

Chop sticks ready but Angie always asks for a fork! one day she will learn how to use chopsticks.

Kevin is looking remarkably cheerful today, maybe Genesis is working?

Michelle was sitting by the window which always makes for a difficult shot, some people suggested fill-in flash but I think that this makes the picture a little unreal.

Here you can see Steve making the dangerous crossing of Wardour Street as we strolled back to the office.

As always e walked back down Gerrard street only pausing for a group shot by the lions.

Cleaning the Adelphi

Our last two days have been disturbed by noise from the cleaning of the front of the building. They have used n enormous crane to lift up a strange cabin like apparatus to various parts of the exterior. The attached picture gives you an idea what it looks like.

Noise Issues

I really don’t know what is going on but our last few months in the Adelphi have been plagued by noise. We firstly had John Adam St being dig up by Thames Water as they are renewing water and sewerage pipes this seemed to go on for weeks. After that had quietened down it suddenly started up again in Robert St. IFD IT are on the North-West corner of the building and so open to noise from both streets. Eventually that too finished and we thought that our last week in the building would be quiet! Wrong, yesterday an enormous crane appeared at the front with a dangling device for cleaning the outside of the building. It looks like its going to take a few days to complete nicely finishing off our time here.
